SDA Builder: Designing and Building SDA Homes
The SDA design categories PNP Constructions builds, how we build to the SDA Design Standard, and the projects that show it.
Building SDA
What an SDA builder does
An SDA builder designs and constructs Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) for NDIS participants with very high support needs. Every new SDA home has to meet the SDA Design Standard for its design category, so the build has to be planned around the people who will live there and the support they receive.
SDA B.O.O.T.S homes are designed and built by PNP Constructions, part of PNP Group.
Design categories
SDA design categories we build
Robust
Very strong, durable housing that reduces repairs and keeps residents and others safe. May suit people who need help managing complex and challenging behaviours. Robust SDA
High Physical Support
A high level of physical access for people who need very high levels of support, such as a ceiling hoist, backup power supply or home automation. High Physical Support SDA
Compliance
Building to the SDA Design Standard
- Design Standard. The SDA Design Standard is mandatory for all new SDA dwellings.
- Independent certification. An accredited SDA assessor who is independent of the provider certifies each home at the final as-built stage.
- Accessibility. On our Robust villas, Robust requirements are considered together with relevant AS 1428 accessibility considerations.
- Safety systems. Our homes are designed with fire-rated construction including sprinkler protection, monitored heat and smoke alerts, secure access control and multiple egress pathways.
Delivery
How we deliver an SDA build
PNP Group works across design, construction, compliance and long-term management of each home, with a single point of contact through one integrated team. The participant brief, the care model and the architectural vision are brought together early, so the design can be approved, funded and built.
For two customised Robust SDA villas, PNP Constructions spent more than twelve months and over 1,000 hours on design and development.
